Poetry Folders

Each week I introduce a new poem to the class. The poem is usually related to our current theme. We recite the poem daily. The poems are kept in their bearbooks that they take home daily. The children are instructed to read the new poem and other favorite poems in their folders. They also are to find specific words and letters in the poems.

Fire fighters wear big hats.
Climb up ladders to rescue cats.
Use big hoses to spray on fires.

I am a little snowman.

Springtime weather it can change,

In the spring we might see rain,
Oh, I love a rainy day.

Use other weather words: clouds, snow, hail, wind, etc.

Five little kites flying high in the sky.
Said "Hi!" to the cloud as it passed by.
Said "Hi!" to the birds,

Oh what fun!
Then whish went the wind,

The Nine Planets

Here is a picture that you can treasure.
Teaching you has been a pleasure!
The year now ends, and we must part,
Always know you are in my heart!

     I've been walking in the rainforest,
      All among the trees.
      I've been walking in the rainforest,
      Where I saw the bats and bees.
      Parrots, butterflies and toucans,
      Monkeys and hummingbirds galore,
      Frogs and snakes and spotted leopards
      On the rainforest floor!

Walk, run, jump, fly,
Today we set you free,
You're going out into this great big world,
