Poetry Folders
Each week I introduce a new poem to the class.  The poem is usually related to our current theme.  We recite the poem daily.  The poems are kept in their bearbooks that they take home daily.  The children are instructed to read the new poem and other favorite poems in their folders.  They also are to find specific words and letters in the poems.

SEE PARENT LETTER- This letter is stapled to the inside of the poetry folders.

         Fire Fighters
Fire fighters wear big hats.
Climb up ladders to rescue cats.
Use big hoses to spray on fires.
Ride big trucks with big black tires.
Race when they hear a fire alarm.
To help keep people safe from harm.

        Bats
Bats are beautiful,
As black as the night.
As swift as air itself,
And not around in light.

I Saw an Owl
I saw an owl,
A baby owl,
Sitting high up in a tree.
It is nighttime. She's awake.
And she is staring right at me.

I am a little snowman.
I am so fat and round.
I started as a snowflake,
That fell upon the ground.
I have two buttons for my eyes,
A great big scarf of red.
I have a carrot for a nose,
A hat upon my head.

Fishing and swimming
In the deep blue sea.

My wings are black
And my tail is white.
And I like sliding down the snow so bright!
Springtime weather it can change,
Oh, it can change each day.
In the spring we might see rain,
Oh, I love a rainy day.

Said "Hi!" to the sun,
Said "Hi!" to the airplane,
Oh what fun!
Then whish went the wind,
And they all took a dive,

Three Valentines
(to the tune of Mary Had A Little Lamb)

Three valentines I have for you,
Have for you, have for you,
Three valentines I have for you,
Pink and red and blue.

I'll put them in the mail for you,
Mail for you, mail for you,
I'll put them in the mail for you,
Pink and red and blue.
Brush, brush, brush your teeth,
Brush them everyday.
Healthy teeth make a pretty smile,
Our teeth are here to stay!

This Week's Poem
I wish I were an Astronaut
The Nine Planets
Here is a picture that you can treasure.
Teaching you has been a pleasure!
The year now ends, and we must part,
Always know you are in my heart!
I've been walking in the rainforest,
      All among the trees.
I've been walking in the rainforest,
Where I saw the bats and bees.
      Parrots, butterflies and toucans,
      Monkeys and hummingbirds galore,
Frogs and snakes and spotted leopards
      On the rainforest floor!
Walk, run, jump, fly,
Today we set you free,
You're going out into this great big world,
Thank you for spending some time with me.
