Groundhog Facts



Groundhogs are rodents .
They are members of the squirrel family.
They are also called Woodchucks.
Groundhogs travel mainly on land but they can swim.
They have 4 toes on their front feet and 5 toes on their back feet.
Groundhogs usually make two dens underground: one for winter and one
for summer.
Their burrows have a main door and one or two escape doors.
The burrow have a seperate room for nursing babies and sleeping and for
pottying.
Groundhogs hibernate from October until March.
Groundhogs usually have between 3 and 4 babies each year.
Groundhog babies are called cubs, kits,or pups.
Groundhogs may let out a shrill whistle when they feel threatened.
